Pro Bono

Pro bono work is a professional obligation.  We consistently take on pro bono briefs ranging from our associates serving as duty counsel in Small Claims Court and the Superior Court to interventions in the Supreme Court of Canada on behalf of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Advocates’ Society and the Canadian Bar Association.

Education

Our lawyers teach at law schools, lecture at continuing legal education programs, and are frequently called upon to write and speak about issues of significance to the profession. To ensure accessibility to legal education, we have endowed a Bursary at Osgoode Hall Law School, which is awarded each year to a student with financial need.

Professional

Our lawyers regulate and contribute to the legal profession.  We have served as presidents and board members of The Advocates’ Society and are appointed to the Chief Justice of Ontario’s Advisory Committee on Professionalism. We serve or have served on Ontario’s E-Discovery Implementation Committee, the Commercial List Users’ Committee, Civil Justice Review, the Canadian Bar Association, and others.

Community

We play a leadership role in a variety of community and charitable organizations, including The McMurtry Gardens of Justice, the Sunnybrook Foundation, Second Harvest, St. Christopher House, Bond Child and Family Development, the Confederation Centre of the Arts, Lawyers International Food Enterprise, the Quetico Foundation, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program and the Furniture Bank.
